Autumn House

Residential (Alterations and Additions)

Located in Newtown, Victoria, Australia

Brief

The brief was to make minor moves. Retain the current form of the house but make better connections to the backyard and update the bathroom and kitchen.

Site

The site is located in Newtown Geelong in a streetscape of similar heritage homes with the steep and high roof pitch. A quintessential white picket fence type home.

The site was occupied by a weatherboard Edwardian home which had undergone a previous addition to the back. The existing backyard was a lovely space but with no connection to the living areas.

Design Response

By removing windows and solid doors and replacing them with operable glazed doors, a greater connection was forged with the back deck and garden.

A calming palette of timber and limestone was used to create a timeless yet modern interior within the heritage home.
